The National Chiao Tung University accepts applications for the spring 2024 intake. The spring intake is only open to master and doctoral applicants. Undergraduate candidates can only apply for the fall intake. All international students who apply for admission and select the scholarship on their application form will be considered for the National Chiao Tung University Scholarship for International Students. Qualified applicants will be awarded a scholarship for one year. At the end of the first year, students can renew their scholarships provided they maintain satisfactory academic performance.
The NYCU/NCTU International Student scholarship program will allow those who wish to study in Taiwan to accomplish their dream. The scholarship will provide a monthly stipend along with a tuition waiver. This will allow candidates to focus on their studies and finish with flying colors. Founded originally in 1896 under the name of Nanyang College (shanghai), the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU – 國立交通大學), was re-established in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1958. The University has laid a firm foundation for the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP), the “Silicon Valley” of Taiwan.
In recent years, the National Chiao Tung University has taken the lead in integrating the fields of engineering, medicine, and life sciences to effectively explore and deploy in biomedical technologies and in melding green energy developments. Today, NCTU positions itself as a university of “holistic education, academic excellence, and technological innovation”. NCTU aims to become a hub of global high-tech R&D, an incubator of innovative and creative talents, and therefore, a top university worldwide.

National Chiao Tung University Scholarship Benefits
Selected candidates for this university scholarship may receive a monthly stipend and/or a tuition scholarship. The monthly stipend and tuition scholarships may be awarded separately or simultaneously:
- Stipends are given monthly as shown below:
- Undergraduate student: NT$5,000 – 21,000/month
- Master’s student: NT$7,000 – 25,000/month
- PhD student: NT$10,000 – 30,000/month.
- Tuition scholarships are divided into two categories:
- full waiving of tuition and credit fees, and
- tuitions and credit fees charged according to the rates of local students.
- Elite Ph.D. Scholarship for New Students is composed of a :
- NT$33,000 (NT$25,000 from the Office of International Affairs and a NT$8,000 matching-fund from the advisor) per month
- full waiver of tuition and
- credit fees waiver.
In principle, these scholarships are awarded for one academic year period and may be reapplied and reviewed regularly based on applicants’ academic performance, research records and are subject to a maximum number of years.
National Chiao Tung University Scholarship Eligibility
To apply for this Asia scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- hold citizenship of any country other than Taiwan.
- be healthy both physically and mentally.
- Bachelor’s degree program applicants should have a high school degree.
- Master’s degree program applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Doctoral degree program applicants should have a master’s degree.
Awardees of Outstanding New Student Scholarships should have a certain average grade (3.0 scored by grade point for undergraduate students and 3.5 scored by grade point for graduate students) in the first semester to be eligible to receive the scholarship or tuition scholarship in the second semester. The student’s mentor or advisor may propose, to the Committee, reasons for reviewing and subsequently adjusting or canceling the award.
Elite Ph.D. Scholarship is for new PhD students and students directly pursuing a Ph.D. degree with outstanding grades and who have not received scholarships or grants from the Taiwan government. The award is available for the first 2 years of study. Starting in their third year, the student’s status will be reviewed according to the regulations of the scholarship.
Awardees shall achieve the academic performance with an average grade of 3.76 or above in each semester to be eligible to receive the scholarship or tuition scholarship in the following semester. However, if the awardees have related notes provided by their mentors or advisors, they may maintain or adjust their tuition scholarships. The standards governing such adjustments will be reviewed by the Committee.
Students currently receiving government-funded scholarships are not eligible to apply. For example, current NYCU scholarship recipients whose award duration includes the 2024 Spring semester, Taiwan Scholarships, ESP Scholarship, UST Scholarship, TIGP Scholarship, NSNT Scholarship, NYCU Elite Ph.D., scholarship sponsored by the government of your home country, etc.). Students holding a working VISA/ARC are not eligible to apply.
